All-Stars
After the spring season, our baseball and softball divisions send All-Star teams to represent Pacific Grove in tournaments around the Monterey Peninsula, and for baseball, in the PONY tournaments that lead to the World Series.

All-Stars FAQ
What is All-Stars?
Each All-Star division fields one or more competitive teams of hand-picked players who represent Pacific Grove after the spring season. Baseball (Pinto, Mustang and Bronco) plays local invitationals in late May and June, then the PONY tournaments in July, and can run into August if the team keeps advancing. Softball, which plays as the PG PONY Riptide (Pre-Rookies, Rookies and Minors), plays in and hosts invitational tournaments from late May into June, and the season ends there.
When and where are the tournaments?
Tournaments vary from year to year, but there's typically a local tournament over Memorial Day weekend, another the first weekend in June, and another over Father's Day weekend. Baseball teams then move on to the PONY tournaments in July.
How many teams will there be?
It depends on how many players sign up and how many coaches are available. In baseball we aim for 1 Pinto team, 1–2 Mustang teams and 1–2 Bronco teams.
How are players selected?
Current division head coaches and the division's All-Star head coach pick the players. Signing up doesn't guarantee a spot, but you have to sign up to be considered.
How do I sign up my child?
Log in to your SportsConnect account and register your player for All-Star interest. Families are asked to provide their availability for the duration of the All-Star season. Players who don't register won't be considered.
Is there a cost?
Players who make a team, baseball or softball, pay an extra $250 registration fee, which covers the PG All-Star uniform and tournament entry fees. If a baseball team advances to PONY tournaments outside the area, families pay their own travel costs. Scholarships are available — contact the board.
What's the time commitment?
Practices start in late April, 2–3 times a week depending on the coach. Weekday practices and games start at 4pm or later, and nearly every weekend from late May on is a tournament. Riptide softball players need to be available through June. Baseball players need to be available for most of the summer, and must be available for the July PONY tournaments.
Are parents expected to help?
Yes. PG PONY hosts All-Star tournaments as fundraisers, and every All-Star family, baseball and softball, is required to volunteer at the tournaments we host (working around their own player's games).
How do I coach an All-Star team?
All-Star coaches can come from our current coaching staff or from outside the league. Submit the coaching interest form by the interest deadline.
